11/28/08 - Friday - New Computer purchased with geek squad upgrades (but an mfg sticker listing the updated specs).
i went to work after having camped out. Afterward I got home and crashed out until it was time to go to work the next day. Yikes.
11/29/08 - Saturday - New Toshiba laptop opened after getting home from work (i work Saturday). I'm excited at such a good deal. except for hard drive,
this machine is slightly better than my hp tx1000 series in specs. well, except no touchscreen ;o) Attempted to install Firefox and noticed the mouse buttons are not working.
Mouse buttons are defective. Will resist the urge to fix things myself and contact Best Buy.
BEST BUY
11/30/08 - Sunday - Took in laptop, receipt, skin, and power cord to point of purchase: Best Buy 1459.
Geek squad paperwork when purchased: COMPLIMENTARY services with the purchase: System Functionality check. Post purchase support on duty 24/7.
Nathan W. - In-Store Tactical Analysis: The right click on the laptop doesn't seem to work. Computer was purchased on black friday.
assess: send out to SVC CNTR for repair. perform: repair on laptop. recommend: replace your
antivirus when the subscription expires.
PROBLEM: repair center is not accepting this machine.
Nathan W. - suggested having the store hold on to it for 5 days to research problem. after which point MAYBE
something could be done for a swap. i requested someone to guide me through for an exchange. best buy policy is
that if they can't fix it they will swap with a comparable model. user must pay the price difference.
"comparable models" are several hundred dollars difference in price. comparable price (according to bb blue shirt rep) LOSES MORE THAN HALF OF THE COMPUTING POWER AND SIGNIFICANT PERFORMANCE LOSS. i asked to speak to mgr. manager came out
after several minutes and stated best buy will not be able to help today (after a short blip repeating all the obvious things).
walked out of store 2 hours later with nothing resolved (oh and i wasn't checked for laptop on the way out, but i think the security guy just recognized me).
picked up some taco bell, got home, plugged in mouse (laptop works fine with external mouse). attempted to reload os just to make sure, but problem is defective internal mouse buttons. Defective parts! Ok, maybe Toshiba?

fair enough, it's sunday.
so pretty much here so far it is TOSHIBA + BEST BUY (geek squad?) = FRIDAY/SUNDAY FAIL. Next year if i shop for any
deals i will be doing it at Fry's. They have always given awesome customer service, and they earn their money. I
will probably continue on both ends to see how to get a working laptop. Then again, screw that! people are dying
for this stuff? it's not THAT great a deal and even working right...
oh and hmm, maybe my credit card can help? i think i will give it another day before i consider that.
step 1: get a working laptop.
step 2: try and complain to the right people. i understand stuff can be defective, but to say there is no way to repair or replace, well, that's just silly. i will try to talk to a different manager, maybe at a different store?
on a different note: both of the 1st reps i talked to for each company were both friendly and helpful within their power. i really don't understand how a defect like this made it through TWO companies. i must remind myself never to shop at best buy unless it is a going out of business sale.
